What We Do

Farmers Market

Beginning the summer of 2011, the Vinita FFA promoted a student run Farmers Market that would be an event both valuable for the FFA member as well as the community. The market is built around the chapter member’s individual projects. The members bring their products to the market and they receive payment to their own projects. This allows the students to learn planning, production, marketing and communication on the “fruits of their labors.” The benefits to the community and supporters are there is an increased availability of “clean products” and awareness of healthy foods. The Vinita FFA Farmers Market provides a community event where individuals can gather and enjoy supporting young agriculturalists as well as community interaction.

Compete for State and National Awards

The Vinita FFA has had very successful achievements since 2012 when the chapter won the National Chapter Award in Student Development. This is the only time Vinita FFA had won a National Chapter award and one of the few awards of this type to be won by an Oklahoma chapter. Since that year Vinita FFA has been a 3 Star National Chapter in years 2012, 2014 and 2016 and a National finalist in 2016. Vinita FFA has secured state winners in Commercial Cattle Grading as well as Livestock Evaluation CDE areas. The Agriscience research has become an area of excellence for Vinita FFA in both state and nationally. Vinita FFA had National finalists in Agriscience research in 2015, 2016 and 2017. Vinita had 14 National finalist in 2017 in agriscience research and livestock evaluation.

Work In Our Community

The Vinita FFA is the first “go to” group for many of our community leaders and organizations for help and extra hands when activities are happening in Vinita. FFA members participate with several Vinita Chamber events in ways of support or additional participants to help promote and help for success of activities. The chapter caters several events for business, churches, organizations as well as activities that are associated with Vinita town and community. The goal of Vinita FFA is to “grow” future community leaders. The ideals of Vinita FFA is to educate members to be able to grow into community leadership positions to ensure the town of Vinita continues to go forward and be better because of their input.

We Run A Food Truck

Through a grant from the Cresap Foundation to the Vinita FFA, a food truck was purchased in June 2017. It was a game changer for the Vinita FFA. The food truck has allowed the Vinita FFA to take the food that members have grown as well as food handling and catering techniques to a new level. The food truck sets up at the Farmers Market each week to offer a menu of made from scratch offerings for breakfast. Several people have been repeat customers due to the outstanding seasonal fritters such as Porter peach, local blueberry, local apple and pumpkin flavored. The food truck is a staple at all Vinita community events to help draw the food truck experience for the event draw. Students learn planning, execution, customer contact and communication skills. The members enjoy the compliments they receive and community members enjoy seeing students growing more successful in each event they participate in.

Learn How To Run A Business

Agriculture is a very diverse area. The FFA encompasses the numerous opportunities that agriculture lends. Each Vinita FFA member is required to have a supervised agricultural experience. These SAE are of two types: 1)Placement – which is when a member works for someone else or 2)Entrepreneurship – which is running one’s own business. The diversity of Vinita FFA allows opportunity for members to capitalize on personal interests and provide earnings for the products of their business. Running a business increases the learning capabilities to life skill abilities that will follow the FFA members beyond their high school years.
