Pesticide Free Crops Grown by Our Students
With the support of community members, Gary McGee, and the Cherokee Nation the Vinita FFA has over an acre of garden space as well as two 20 foot raised beds in which to grow organic-like produce that is offered to the chapter markets. The “clean produce” is grown chemical free and with environmentally conscious techniques. Fertilization of crops is done by use of composted soils and renewed nutrition through the introduction of biomass produced with the vegetables. Pesticides are not used and only chemical free techniques such as the introduction of sugar water, which inhibit invasion of pesky bugs, are used. The FFA members have a serious care for those who purchase their produce and have pledged to provide the healthiest options possible.
